I can't believe fall break is finally here. As I tried to fall asleep last night, I tossed and turned out of excitement (okay, and a little nervousness) for all of our activities. Each day we are going to focus on a different pillar of MSU's Public Affairs Mission. Participants are going to learn about how it is not just something that can be learned about in the classroom, but also applied to the community. Today's pillar is Ethical Leadership.
We are going to start our day by going to Commercial Street. We will have a speaker who has been on C-Street for nearly 30 years. We will learn all about what the leaders of the community are doing to develop the street and encourage it's growth. Then we will go to our first service site, Grant Beach Neighborhood Association, which serves an area that includes C-Street. Then we will get a tour of Askinosie Chocolate Factory. Can we discuss how I didn't even know Springfield had a chocolate factory until Clay and I began planning for this trip? How cool is that!? After our tour, we will have a chance to explore all the shops on C-Street.
I'm so excited for our group to get to know each other and connect as we explore and serve in Springfield together. Our group is a variety of ages and backgrounds, so I am excited to see what each person brings and takes from the trip. Everyone will have a different perspective and everyone will have something different to contribute to reflection. I can't wait to serve alongside my team!
